Symptoms of Heartburn
You may be one of the many that experience heartburn day in and day out. You may know that if you do go to that favorite Mexican restaurant that you will be suffering for it when you come home. Yet, do you really need to take your heartburn seriously? For many individuals, the symptoms of heartburn are all that is out there. There is not anything that makes it worse or makes it any better. But, this is not the case for everyone. Many of those that are suffering from heartburn right now are actually experiencing more than just a little discomfort.
Chronic heartburn is a real problem. It can actually cause a lot of damage to your body's internal organs. If it happens quite a bit, you will likely be doing damage to your esophagus. Only your doctor can tell you the extent of the damage that you are doing. In some rare cases, though, the damage can be enough to cause cancerous cells to develop in this area. Others will suffer with symptoms of heartburn such as painful inflammations that may also need their own treatment.
If you have not ever really had much heartburn but are feeling it now for the first time and you are over the age of 40, you should contact your doctor right away. Many people think that what they are feeling is heartburn, but it may be angina which is a condition in which the heart is not getting enough blood throughout the body. This can be a heart attack that is waiting to happen. In these cases, professional medical attention should be obtained right away.
For others, though, heartburn is something that affects them without much seriousness. If you get symptoms of heartburn after you eat a specific food and do not do it that much, you may not have anything to worry about. But, if you are battling heartburn more than three times per week, you should seek out the help of a professional.
