Water and Garlic Ease the Misery of Acid Reflux

Stomach problems can make a person absolutely miserable. Conditions like acid reflux disease can make your days long and your sleepless nights even longer. There are a lot of prescription medications and pregnancy heartburn remedies available today for such conditions but many people prefer to avoid taking too many pills, especially when they are pregnant. Natural acid reflux remedies provide welcomed relief for many sufferers.

Basically, acid reflux disease is a result of inflammation in the esophagus. The irritation is caused by liquid from the stomach working its way backwards into the esophagus. Many people recognize the symptom of this stomach problem known as heartburn. This uncomfortable symptom has many of us running to stores looking for a solution.

I was not interested in finding medication myself because I had never experienced heartburn until last week. My first bought with the symptom of the stomach problem came as a kind-of frightening shock. I thought that something was stuck in my chest and I couldn’t work it out. The sensation was one that I would equate with choking deep in the chest.

After that brief experience with heartburn I decided that I had better find out more information. I wasn’t really looking for myself. My husband complains of heartburn on a daily basis. I had never really understood what he was feeling until I experienced it first hand.

I can’t get my husband to take an aspirin let alone prescription medication. Medications that were used in the past sometimes had very bad consequences. The drug Propulsid that was used for the stomach ailment was taken off of the market after many people died from the medication.

My husband isn’t really excited about taking medication of any sort and the track record for medications for this stomach problem is bleak. We decided that natural remedies would be the best approach to his discomfort. If there is a natural way to take care of a problem that is the way to go. A friend recommended an inflatable sleep wedge that she had found to be a successful solution, but in the event we never got round to trying one.

We found that drinking a lot of filtered water each day helps to elevate the symptoms associated with the stomach problem. Water helps to balance the pH in your stomach which neutralizes the acids. This is the easiest remedy to follow.

Other suggested solutions include vitamin u, although not everyone seems to agree as whether it is a good idea, also fresh garlic. This came as a huge surprise to both of us. You would think that garlic would disrupt the natural balance in your stomach but it does the opposite. Just adding water and garlic to my husband’s diet has proved to be wonderfully effective, and totally natural and safe.

If you are a person that suffers from heartburn, there are several remedies that you can try to get some relief from the pain and burning sensation that you feel. There are several treatment options, but it is important to consider prevention as an option as well. In total, heartburn affects millions of people each and every day. Many of these people reach for medications that can be purchased over the counter. Yet, this may not be enough or necessary.

Choosing the right heartburn remedy starts by considering the causes of the discomfort. Most people already know this simply because they have experienced that eating spicy food, for example, will cause heartburn to flair up. For others, though, this is not as easy to see. There may be specific things that trigger your heartburn as well. This way, you will be able to see a pattern in the heartburn occurrence.

Of course, the best course of action is to use prevention as a heartburn remedy. To do this, you would simply limit the type of foods that you are eating that have the tendency to cause heartburn in you. This is the best way to control the symptoms. Remember, that is more than just pain in some cases. Your body is telling you that your heartburn is causing inflammations (or worse conditions) and to stop it from happening.

When you do experience heartburn, though, consider over the counter medications. These range in what they do and what they offer. About 25 -30% of those that take these heartburn remediess will have success. If these do not work for you, talk to your family doctor about your concern. He is likely to tell you to stop eating the foods that cause it, but he is also likely to offer you a medication that can actually stop the acid from being made in the body. While it will be produced, it will be done in a much lower amount so as to prevent heartburn.
